Travel Membership/Timeshare: A Lifetime Decision

Posted by: vikki  :  Category: Travel reviews & hot deals

The disadvantages of owning a Timeshare like RCI and our recommendations for luxury travel.

Timeshare was probably, along with franchising, one of the most revolutionary concepts of its time. But as good as Timeshare sounds, it comes with a set of disadvantages.

The whole idea is to buy one single week and never pay again. But this poses a  problem.  Would you really like to travel to the same resort every year for the rest of your life? Maybe it’s a resort you love and you say to yourself: “No problem, I love coming here”.

The industry has made some changes, now you can buy Timeshares on a resort that is part of a group of resorts, and they offer you the advantage to travel different places. But is it really that great?

Even if your resort is allied to others, are they resorts from around the globe? How many resorts can you really choose from? And did you read the small print?

Timeshares are highly expensive, regardless of the timeshare membership you own, you will be charged an upfront fee from $15,000 and up,  along with an annual maintenance fee at around $700 usd a year, and it doesn’t matter if you use your week or not. Can you afford this?

Often, there are common restrictions with timeshares: blackout weeks, no chance to travel more than one week a year. And did you remember the advantage to travel to different places? Well swapping your week  comes with a lot of difficulties, and sometimes swapping resorts comes with a high cost.

What happens if you would like to give your friends or family a great present and send them away to travel for a week? Well, that means that you won’t be able to travel in the same year as you just blocked your week.  Remember, you only bought one week a year.

Now our recommendations.

The Western Algarve: Picture Postcard Beauty

Posted by: vikki  :  Category: Travel reviews & hot deals

The most southwesterly tip of Europe, the Algarve is a haven of beautiful sandy beaches, sleepy traditional fishing villages, world class golf courses, untouched mountain towns, international marinas and year round sunshine.

For thousands of years it has been a much favoured area, with a colourful history. Once a kingdom in its own right, the Algarve has seen invasions by the Phoenicians, Romans and Moors, been the starting point for great explorations, and now is a wonderful place for you and your family to come and visit.

The Western Algarve is the classic, picture-postcard Algarve, which will appeal to golfers, families with children, and in general those who like their holiday destinations to have the full range of facilities. See particularly the coast around Lagos, with its limestone cliffs and weird, erosion-formed caves, grottoes and rock formations, often springing picturesquely out of the water. Other places of interest are Albufeira, Carvoeiro, Lagoa, the historic city of Silves, Portimão, and Sagres.

Alvor is a fishing village, where you can still experience the daily fish auction which is held at the waters edge. The massive beach in front of the village of Alvor fringes the eastern half of Lagos Bay. You can walk straight on to it. There are sand dunes but no cliffs. It is a wide open beach, popular among windsurfers, and good for other watersports as well.

Long lasting traditions have survived the ages and are reflected in the local handicrafts, food, wines and liqueurs, architecture, and festivals.

Alto Golf and Country Club is ideally situated in Portugal’s Western Algarve where the sea is warm and calm, and the climate is pleasant year round.

Spend the week of Jan 30 – Feb 06 10 at the Alto Golf and Country Club, one bedroom $298.  This is a member benefit special price when you own a GRN Travel Membership. Click the red button to watch our movie.  Sign up today and save thousands on your vacations for a lifetime.

Vermont: The land of maple syrup, skiing, golf

Posted by: vikki  :  Category: Travel reviews & hot deals

The land of maple syrup, dairy, and liberal politics is clearly so much more. The placid scenery as the backdrop for sports, fine dining, and sun basking truly makes Vermont the perfect getaway, not the mention the most notable skiing on the East Coast come winter.

Ludlow, Vermont is best known as a skiing destination, but there are dozens of things to do throughout the year. The town is just a short drive from Waterbury, where the first Ben and Jerry’s store still stands. Mt. Tabor gives you access to outlet shops, the Appalachian trail and history museums. Whether you visit when it’s warm or cold, you still have access to many things to do in the area.

If you prefer hiking and plan on visiting Ludlow in the warmer months, you’ll be happy since there are several hiking trails in the town. One of the best is the Bald Mountain hiking trail; it begins in nearby Brattleboro. The trail covers over 18 miles

If you plan on skiing during the winter months, visit the Jackson Gore Ski Area. The Jackson Gore Inn is located right at the bottom of the trails; this gives you the option of staying as close to the runs as possible. The trails are suited for beginner and intermediate skiers because the trails are easier to handle and smoother than some of the more advanced ones on the mountain.

The 18-hole golf course at the Okemo Valley Golf Club is used on several championship tours, and golfers from all across the country play there every year.

Plan to visit Vermont this spring and stay at the Jackson Gore Inn, Apr 30-May 7 2010  two bedroom for only $345. for the week.   This is a member benefit special price when you own a
